Learn a "How-to" Thinking Process for Solving  Compelling Problems at Work!  

    

Successful organizations recognize that critical thinking and creative solutions to problems significantly enhance business potential. Today's decision makers must employ a variety of thinking styles, methodologies and creative processes to achieve competitive advantage.

In this 2-day course you develop your skills as a creative thinker and problem solver. You learn to leverage your personal thinking preferences, and those of your colleagues, using tools and techniques based on cutting-edge, whole-brain technologies.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

At the end of this workshop, participants would be able to:

v Define the term 'Problem'

v  Identify sources, causes and label the types of problems

v  Use the 6-step Process to solve problems

v  Identify the characteristics of problems

v  Use 6 areas of Creative Thinking techniques in the problem solving process

v  List their barriers to thinking creatively and how they can overcome the barriers

v Work out a creativity improvement action plan

v  Use at least Eleven tools when solving problems and making decisions

v Work out a personal plan of action to affirm lessons learnt

 

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

Supervisors, Team Leaders & members of their team, and others in a role where creative thinking and problem solving skills are a key element.

 

COURSE METHODOLOGY

This is a highly interactive workshop, using a hands-on approach with short lectures and small group discussions. At each step of the problem solving process, a practical tool will be introduced. Participants are therefore expected to give 100% engagement in order to benefit from this workshop.

COURSE SCHEDULE
Note: This schedule is a guide and may be modified depending on the group dynamics and the needs of the participants. After every topic module, there'll be a practice session.

Day 1
Morning Session (9.00-10.30am)

· Workshop Expectations
· Defining a Problem
· Defining a Problem: What is a Problem?
· 4 Ways to Solve Problems: run away, go around, create another problem, go through     
the problem
· Sources of Problems: At Work, At Home, Socially, Self
· Common Causes: Elaborate at Work, Home, Social and Self
· Types of Problems: Simple or Complex
· Write Problems on paper to be solved in class fold into airplane & throw
· What is Probortunity?

Coffee Break (15 minutes)

Morning Session (10.45am-12.30pm)
· Introducing the 6 Step Problem Solving Process
· Step 1: Identifying and Defining the Problem
· Determine the PS Theme List the Problems to the Theme Select ONE Problem Write a Problem Statement Determine if we need to carry on?
· Tool #1: Within My Control or Outside My Control?
· If Within My Control: What are the Resources I Need? Use 5W and 1 H to generate Solutions
· Tool #2: Questioning Techniques: 5W and 1 H
· Lessons learnt so far
· Step 2: Analyze the Problem: The Problem Statement The Stakeholders The Motivating Factors
